What we’re looking for

We are looking for a lecturer for the Area of Biostatistics with a PhD in Health Sciences and a background in Public Health. The candidate will be required to:

  • Teach subjects related with statistics, epidemiology, research methodology and public health in health-related Degrees and/or Masters.
  • Perform research in the main research lines of the Area, namely tobacco control, and screen time exposure in children and outcomes associated.
  • To perform management tasks related with teaching.

Key responsibilities

  • To contribute in a research group in the field of Epidemiology.
  • To provide undergraduate and Master’s degree teaching.
  • To lead the management and/or coordination of programmes and perform any other academic tasks assigned by the Department.

Selection process

In May 2018, EURAXESS awarded the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya with an Excellence Award for Research in Human Resources, which ensures that candidates are selected purely on the basis of excellence criteria. The UIC Barcelona selection process involves:

  • An independent board of experts that assesses all applications and decides who will move on to the next stage. All members of this board are from outside UIC Barcelona.
  • A public oral defence by finalist applicants: a presentation about their career (research, management and teaching). Following the presentation, the examination panel will ask a series of questions to conclude the defence. The defence should last a total of 60 minutes.

  • A full-time contract in a dynamic and international scientific environment in the Department of Basic Sciences (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) at UIC Barcelona (Health Sciences Campus, Sant Cugat del Vallès).

Requirements

The candidate must have:

 

  • A PhD in Health Sciences.
  • To be in possession of AQU (starting from Lector) or ANECA (starting from Contratado Doctor) (or similar agencies) accreditation or to have sufficient merits to obtain such accreditation within the first year of employment.
  • Proven record of effective teaching.
  • Oral and written proficiency in English.

 

The following aspects will be looked upon favorably:

  • Track record of publications.
    • Fluency in Catalan/Spanish.
  • Experience in Public Health field.
  • Management Duties Experience
  • Participation in European and national funded research projects.
  • Research experience in the fields of tobacco control, and screen time exposure in children and outcomes associated.
  • Direction of PhD thesis (ongoing or finished).
  • Dissemination in scientific congresses.
  • Research stays abroad.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to get involved in one of the Faculty’s lines of research.
    • Ability to supervise and guide undergraduate and graduate students in their research projects.
