About the Medicine Department

The Medicine Department in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, offers a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and three Master’s Degrees. Also, it is characterized by the fact it undertakes innovative teaching and research projects through the research group “Medical Education”.

Our department is developing different strategies to adapt the academic curriculum of our Medical degree and our areas of research to the needs of the present society. Our future academic curriculum will be partly focused in simulation methodology in Medical Education.

This mission is supported and reinforced by the nature of our campus, which is consisting of six different degrees belonging to health sciences. This academic environment gives lecturers and researchers the possibility to develop their careers in an excellent standard.

What we are looking for

The Department of Medicine is looking for an expert in Medical Education, at post doc stage of his/her career, with specific education in Medical Education (Master or equivalent), who would like to join us to take on research, teaching and management tasks focused in the areas of Medical Education, with a special emphasis in simulation, particularly in the management of our Medical Education Unit.

Academic accreditation or a curriculum equivalent to that required for accreditation will be an asset.

 

We offer

  • A four-year tenure-track position with an intermediate evaluation (depending on the applicant’s background, the position could become permanent more quickly).
  • We offer a full-time contract, a good working environment and a dynamic environment, flexible working hours and support for research.
  • Depending on the candidate’s experience, we offer a research starting pack and a relocation aid pack.
  • Salary: we offer a competitive salary based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant. Expected salary ranging between 45.000-55.000 (yet, adjustments available depending on profile).
  • The position will be located at UIC Barcelona, Campus Sant Cugat, in the Department of Medicine.
  • Start date: To be negotiated with the candidate. The preferred start date would be as close as possible to September 1, 2024.

Selection process

In May 2018, the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya received recognition from EURAXESS via an HR Excellence in Research Award that ensures that the selection of candidates is carried out only based on criteria for excellence. The UIC Barcelona selection process includes:

  • An independent committee of experts who evaluate applications and decide who will move on to the next stage. All the committee members are from outside UIC-Barcelona.
  • A public oral defence by finalists: presentation of their trajectory (both academic and teaching) and their research project/s. Following this presentation, the examining panel will ask a number of questions to conclude the defence. The defence will take 60 minutes in total.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and PhD in Medicine or Health Science related degrees.

Assessment criteria

The following criteria will be of considerable value, but not mandatory:

  • A minimum of 4 years of postdoctoral experience in teaching and research
  • Demonstrated experience in the area of Medical Education, particularly as it relates to Simulation.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Research curriculum related to Medical Education.
  • Regarding research, curriculum as investigator or principal investigator of funded projects is valuable.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Interpersonal communication abilities and ability to manage and undertake multidisciplinary work and teamwork.
  • A commitment to the university in the long-term.
  • In the case of non-Spanish candidates, knowledge of Catalan and/or Spanish will be of value.
  • Demonstrated language proficiency in English.
