What we’re looking for

We are looking for an R3 researcher for the area of Bioengineering - Biosensors and Biomedical Devices Design - with a PhD in fields related to Bioengineering mainly in the following fields but not limited to: Biomedical Engineering, Electric Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, among other. The candidate will be required to:

  • Teach subjects related with the biological part of bioengineering (in the below areas of knowledge: Biomedical Instrumentation, Electronics, Signals and Systems Theory, Computing, Robotics, Bionic, Prosthetics, Biomedical Devices).
  • Perform research in the field related to bioengineering, mainly related to the following fields:
    • Biomedical Devices – Diagnostic and Treatment
    • Biosensor development
    • Bioinstrumentation
    • Microfluidics and organ-on-chip devices
  • To perform management tasks related with undergraduate teaching.

Key responsibilities

  • To contribute to a research group in the field of Bioengineering – Biosensors and Biomedical Devices Design.
  • To provide high quality degree teaching in your specialist subjects.
  • To have the capacity write grants, secure funding and implement research projects as leading scientist.

Selection process

In May 2018, EURAXESS awarded the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya with an Excellence Award for Research in Human Resources, which ensures that candidates are selected purely on the basis of excellence criteria. The UIC Barcelona selection process involves:

  • An independent board of experts that assesses all applications and decides who will move on to the next stage. All members of this board are from outside UIC Barcelona.
  • A public oral defence by finalist applicants: a presentation about their career (research, management and teaching). Following the presentation, the examination panel will ask a series of questions to conclude the defence. The defence should last a total of 60 minutes.

We offer:

 

  • A full-time contract in a dynamic and international scientific environment in the Department of Basic Sciences (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) at UIC Barcelona (Health Sciences Campus, Sant Cugat del Vallès).
  • A competitive salary based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
  • Lab bench in a wet lab and use of the Department’s scientific equipment.
  • Start date: December 2024 (date is negotiable)

Requisitos

The candidate must have:

  • A PhD obtained abroad in a discipline related to the position.
  • AQU or ANECA (or similar) accreditation.
  • Proven record of effective teaching.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Oral and written proficiency in English.

The following aspects will be looked upon favorably:

  • Excellent track record of publications.
  • Participation in funded research projects.
  • Proven research experience in the following fields:
    • Biomedical Devices – Diagnostic and Treatment
    • Biosensor development
    • Bioinstrumentation
    • Microfluidics and organ-on-chip devices
  • Participate in technology transfer of the group’s developments
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to get involved in one of the Faculty’s lines of research.
  • Ability to supervise and guide undergraduate and graduate students in their research projects.
