Selection Process

In May 2018, EURAXESS awarded the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya an HR Excellence in Research award, which ensures that candidates are selected solely based on criteria of excellence. Furthermore, since 2016 we have been part of the HRS4R initiative, which stands for Human Resources Strategy for Researchers, promoted by the European Commission. This initiative aims to give public recognition to institutions that have made progress in aligning their human resources policies, thereby improving employment and working conditions for teaching and research staff and contributing to making academic and scientific careers more attractive.

The selection process at UIC Barcelona includes the following stages:

  • Pre-selection Phase: An independent committee, composed of both internal and external experts to UIC Barcelona, will evaluate all applications received. Their role is to identify the candidates who best fit the desired profile and determine who will move on to the next stage of the process.
  • Evaluation by the Selection Panel: Finalist candidates must deliver a public oral presentation before an evaluation panel. This panel is made up of two external faculty members and one internal member from UIC. The presentation should cover the candidate’s academic career, including research, teaching, and management. After the presentation, the panel will ask questions to complete the assessment. The total duration of this defense will be 60 minutes. In some cases, candidates may be asked in advance to give a 20-minute lecture on a specific topic as part of this phase.
  • Competency Assessment Phase: This phase will be coordinated by the Centre Board, which will organize a dedicated session to evaluate the transversal and personal skills of the two finalists. The activities will be tailored to the candidates’ profiles and will be communicated in advance by the Board.
  • Final Decision Phase: Final selection and communication of the outcome to the candidates.

 

What we’re looking for

We are seeking an R3-level researcher and lecturer with a strong track record in neurometabolic diseases and biomedical analysis methodologies. - with a PhD in fields related to neuroendocrinology mainly in the following fields but not limited to: neuroscience, metabolism (diabetes, obesity), neurometabolism, and medical technology, with demonstrated expertise in animal models and advanced biomedical techniques. Also, experience in academic coordination and mentoring will be highly valuable.

Main responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in the field of neurometabolism, with a focus on central regulation of metabolic diseases.
  • Provide high-quality teaching at undergraduate and master's level, particularly in subjects related to:
    • Biomedical analysis techniques
    • Advanced methodologies in biomedical sciences
    • Experimental models in biomedicine
  • Lead or contribute to the coordination and management of official master’s programs in biomedical sciences.
  • Participate in the academic life of the department, including mentoring students and engaging in curriculum development.
  • Actively contribute to the department's research in Biomedicine, specifically in biosensors and biomedical device design.

Requisitos

The successful candidate must have:

  • A PhD in a discipline related to the position.
  • AQU or ANECA (or similar) accreditation.
  • Proven record of effective and high-quality teaching at undergraduate and master’s level.
  • Oral and written proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to lead research projects, secure funding, and supervise students at all levels.
  • Willingness to integrate into existing departmental research lines and contribute to team initiatives.

The following aspects of the candidate’s CV will be evaluated:

  • Excellent track record of publications.
  • Participation in competitive research grants and experience in international research collaborations.
  • Expertise in advanced biomedical technologies and experimental models

 

We offer:

  • A full-time contract in a dynamic and international scientific environment in the Department of Biomedical Sciences (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) at UIC Barcelona (Health Sciences Campus, Sant Cugat del Vallès).
