Position Description

The Faculty of Communication at UIC Barcelona is opening a position for a PhD-holder (Assistant/Associate Professor level) with specialisation in Economics applied to media companies, creative industries, and audiovisual entrepreneurship.

We seek to appoint a PhD in Economics at an early or mid-career stage, with a strong analytical profile and a vocation for research, interested in developing a trajectory of excellence in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer within the field of communication and cultural industries.

Selection Process

In May 2018, EURAXESS awarded Universitat Internacional de Catalunya the HR Excellence in Research Award, ensuring that candidates are selected exclusively on the basis of excellence criteria. Since 2016, the University has also held the HRS4R (Human Resources Strategy for Research) label from the European Commission, recognising institutions that have aligned their human resources policies to improve employment and working conditions for academic and research staff, thereby enhancing the attractiveness of academic and scientific careers.

The selection process at UIC Barcelona includes:

  • Pre-selection Phase: An independent committee, composed of both internal and external experts, will evaluate all applications received. Its role is to identify candidates who best match the required profile and determine who will proceed to the next stage.
  • Evaluation Panel Phase: Final candidates will be required to deliver a public oral presentation before an evaluation panel composed of two external academics and one internal member. The presentation should cover the candidate’s academic trajectory, including research, teaching, and management experience. Following the presentation, the panel will ask questions to complete the assessment. The total duration of this defence will be 60 minutes. In some cases, candidates may be asked in advance to deliver a 20-minute lecture on a specified topic.
  • Competency Assessment Phase: Coordinated by the Faculty Board, this phase will consist of a specific session aimed at assessing the transversal and personal competencies of the two finalists. The design of the activities will be adapted to the candidates’ profiles and communicated in advance.
  • Final Decision Phase: Final selection and communication of the outcome to the candidates.
